Climate Vote MN Launches TV Campaign Against
Senators Carla Nelson & Karin Housley

Minneapolis—Climate Vote Minnesota announced today $170,000 in new TV ads highlighting the anti-climate agendas of Senators Carla Nelson and Karin Housley.

Extreme” and “Bottom Line” will begin running today on cable and streaming platforms as part of Climate Vote MN’s effort to flip the Minnesota Senate to a pro-climate majority.

“Carla Nelson has been perpetuating a myth that she’s a moderate voice within the Republican Senate caucus, but she said it herself when she told a room of supporters that her agenda is Trump’s agenda,” said Marcus Starr, Chair of Climate Vote MN. “For our environment, that means ignoring scientists when it comes to climate change, rolling back environmental protections, and giving tax breaks to big oil and coal companies. The people of Rochester deserve a senator who follows science and data when it comes to public policy decisions.”

As for the SD39 race, Starr went on to say, “Karin Housley is a wolf in sheep’s clothing on clean energy issues. She has portrayed herself as a clean energy supporter, knowing climate change is an important issue for her constituents. But her actions tell a different story. Housley took $60k from big oil and coal companies in her 2018 US Senate bid and defended Trump’s decision to leave the Paris Climate Agreement because reducing greenhouse gas emissions would hinder those polluters’ bottom lines. The people of the Saint Croix Valley don’t want a senator who is bought and paid for by the oil and gas industry.”

Climate Vote Minnesota is a nonpartisan organization working to elect candidates who champion policies that protect our climate for current and future generations. The organization is investing over $700,000 in the 2020 election to make sure voters know where their state senate candidates stand on climate and environmental policy.
