Climate Group Sets Record for Environmental Spending on Elections

Maintains Place as Major Player in Minnesota’s Electoral Landscape

Minneapolis—Voters across Minnesota are walking into the polls with a better understanding of which state office candidates plan on protecting our Great Outdoors and addressing climate change after Climate Vote MN made historic investments this election cycle. The organization invested almost $1.5 million, nearly doubling the amount it spent in 2020 when it ran the largest environmental independent expenditure campaign in Minnesota history.

Using a sophisticated data model, Climate Vote MN targeted voters who are proven to be persuaded by climate change. These voters, overwhelmingly 18-34-year-olds and suburban parents, received digital ads for over 9 weeks along with corresponding direct mail messages.

The campaign focused on comparing the proven records of Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison to the reckless plans of Scott Jensen and Jim Schultz. As well as highlighting climate champions running for Minnesota’s House and Senate.

“From Governor to State Representative, there are clear choices in this election on the candidates who will protect our Great Outdoors for future generations,” said Marcus Starr, Chair of Climate Vote MN. “Given the stakes of the election, we focused heavily on young voters and parents who believe we should have elected officials who not only believe in climate change but will act on it. When the votes are counted tomorrow night, we’re confident their voices will be heard loud and clear.”

Climate Vote MN is a nonpartisan organization working to elect candidates who champion policies that protect our climate for current and future generations. The organization was established in the 2020 election to ensure voters know where their state candidates stand on climate and the Great Outdoors.
